On our three-week trips, we take only enough clothes for 11 days and wash our clothes halfway through the journey.  In 2013 in Mutten, Switzerland, our apartment ($83/night) was located under a 9 student one-room school.  As we were hanging our clothes on the clothesline, the students were released for recess.  Needless to say, we joined in and had a break of our own.  They appreciated our willingness to play with them because their teacher gave them an extra-long recess that day.
