If you like crowds and overpriced tourists shops and restaurants, go to Rothenburg.  If you want an unspoiled medieval walled village with a castle, and without mobs of tourists, go to Möckmühl. It was the “find” on one of our recent trips to Germany.  Located east of Heidelberg just north of the Neckar River, Möckmühl is on your way to everywhere.  The Neckar River is an alternative to the crowded and touristy Rhine River.  The section between Heidelberg and Bad Wimpfen is glorious with castles and history that rival the Rhine.    We enjoyed a very peaceful Sunday morning strolling around the village listening to the church bells. The shops were closed, but the bakery was open.  The owner was a one-man chamber of commerce explaining the many virtues of his picturesque village.
