On our 2013 trip, clouds blocked our view of the Dolomite Mountains in northern Italy (formerly South Tyrol, Austria) from our farm B&B ($80/night) in Wolkenstein.  We tried to get a better view by approaching the mountains from the south side. As we drove a narrow road up the mountain, cows started coming down the road from the mountain pastures.  Herdsmen were taking their bell laden cows to the celebration in Kastelruth, but we got a private show, along with a small group of friendly German tourists, without the tourist crowds in the village.
