Sleeping in Austria
Finding inexpensive accommodations in Austria is simple. You can use the usual suspects, Booking.com or Airbnb.com, but we highly recommend you stay on a farm and use Holidays on the Farm website.
This site is in English, and if you use the map option, you can locate the perfect farm for your home base. Most farms require you to wire the deposit in Euros to their bank account. If your bank is like mine, that can be quite expensive. I email the host and ask if I can send a money order in dollars instead. In our experience, the host has understood and told us to forget the deposit.
I always send my request in German using Google translate. You can convert their reply into English by the same method.

Imagine our surprise when our host gave us some farm fresh treats. In addition, we were invited into their kitchen for an evening of conversation and cherry schnapps. Wow, what a great welcome to our home away from home in Austria.
Hildegard showed us the hand crank machine she uses to churn butter. She told us that the farm has been in the family six generations.

Located just outside of Wenns, Austria it was a wonderful home base for our adventures in the Pitztal and Kaunental valleys. Glaciers top both valleys and we watched them ski on the runs at Kaunental in May.

Werner and Gerda's farm is several miles outside Wenns. Wenns is a non-touristy town that provides all of your necessities, restaurants, groceries, gas station, etc.

Großscharnhof farm B&B is on the mountain side above Bramberg am Wildkogel, Austria. We had a beautiful room and a wonderful breakfast for $65/night. Our room was just inside the upper most balcony. Danielia apologized that the balcony flowers were not at their peak since it was October.
